Social Anxiety

Social anxiety is the experience of intense fear in social situations.

Common fear inducing situations are:
  • Public speaking
  • Being called on in class
  • Meeting new people
  • Doing routine things such as eating in front of others
  • Any performance situation from the field to the stage to the boardroom

As a result, social anxiety can get in the way of daily life. People with social anxiety feel afraid and self-conscious. Many times, they will avoid these situations.

At Union Square Practice, we develop a treatment plan for each person. For social anxiety, we use therapy, medication management, or a combination of both. Social anxiety can affect both children and adults.
