How We Help – Child and Adolescent Psychology
We believe that accurate diagnosis helps guide effective treatment, but also know that a child is not defined by his/her diagnosis. We therefore begin with a thorough evaluation of not just the various problems your child may be having, but also his/he development and life experiences, strengths and interests, social relationships, school history, and family dynamics. We gather this information from an initial questionnaire packet, 1-2 meetings with a child’s parent(s), and an interaction with the child. After these meetings, we meet again to provide feedback and discuss recommendations. Treatment begins from that point forward, and typically occurs once a week for 45 – 60 minutes, involving the child, parents, and family to varying degrees depending on the child’s particular needs and goals.When children are having difficulties at school, we collaborate with teachers and school staff to promote school success. This collaboration can range from phone discussions to ensure that the approaches used at home and school are in sync, to working directly with the child and/or teachers at school to implement and coach the use of effective strategies.
